What Are You Wanting

Desires…Goals…Experiences

I found myself exhausted after a long drive from Baja California, Mexico. On the long four-hour drive alone in my car I began to think about writing out my bucket list, a list of goals, experiences and accomplishments a person wants to do before they literally kick the bucket – die.  I know it sounds morbid but really it is not.  It is an opportunity to create what you are wanting. Do you have a bucket list?

The weather is warming and so should your desires for making the remainder of 2024 the best year ever. It’s all up to you! What are you wanting? Perhaps a trip, finding love, be in the best shape of your life, connecting with a person that has been on your mind, a new car, reading “that” book, watching “that” movie, trying a new hobby such as kayaking, boating or hiking, redoing your space? We all have dreams, desires and that nagging feeling to accomplish something as simple as cleaning out the closet.

It all starts with step #1. You may not know what step #2 will bring until you have taken step #1.  Here is a start. Schedule an appointment with “self” yes “you”.  Just you and a beverage or not. A cocktail or tea perhaps. Set aside a minimum of one hour, you may need less time, you may need more time, flow with it. Here is what you will need:  A pen, A paper or notebook, and an open state of mind.  Do not do this if you are feeling frustrated, overwhelmed or tired, you need to be fully present and mindful. Select a comfortable place in your home. Turn on a candle if you so wish to light up your heart.

Here are a few rules:  1-Sit where you will not be distracted. 2-No overthinking 3-Write down at least ten items. 4-Pick up the pen and just start dreaming and writing anything and everything that comes into your thoughts. 5-Keep this thought as a backdrop…if there were no limiting factors of time and or money for you to achieve your desires what would you do? where would you go? what would you want to experience? Who would you want to reconnect with?

Once you have completed your list, pick the top three items that are the most manageable, realistic and doable this year. Under each of the three desires you have selected write down three to five steps you need to bring it to life. Now out of the three select the one desire that most connects with where you are at this stage of your life and began to plan.  First select a date that you want to have this desire accomplished by and began the plan by working backwards.  Let’s say you want to celebrate the new year in Paris, the list may include save five-hundred dollars monthly, book my ticket, book accommodations, began researching what to do while in Paris etc. Basically, set a plan in motion to make this dream/desire a reality and start doing.

All is possible when we put time, effort and love into it.  There are always options. Stay positive because negative thoughts close off creativity and possibilities.  Enjoy the process.

“It is never too late to reinvent yourself. Start a new career at 40. Fall in love at 50. Learn to dance at 60. Start a whole new life at 70. Stop saying you can’t. You can and you should. Dreams don’t have an expiration date.” - Ravenwolf
